Soccer clubs have featured strongly in this series of postings and it has nothing to do with my love of the sport. It does, however, illustrate the role that many clubs, at all levels, play within their local community. Newcastle Utd, may not be enjoying a great season on the field and they have had the disruption of a takeover bid, but none of this has been allowed to interfere with their communuty work. Even before Coronavirus, their work was impressive, and the Foundation was swift to help once the pandemic was declared. With support from the Football Club, the Supporters Club and their partners, Liontrust Asset Management, they have helped to provide over 3,000 free meals to local children missing free school dinners (working alongside Newcastle East Academy Trust) and they also quickly provided hundreds of free Activity Packs for kids unable to follow their normal pursuits.
