The London Marathon was cancelled this year, due to “you know what” and that left a big hole in charity funds as the event raises about £60m. However, led (I believe) my the major mass-participation events organisers and supported by major charities and large companies, an exciting, alternative was launched on the day that the Marathon should have taken place – 26 April. The challenge is variable but ideally involves the numbers 2.6 or 26. Sports stars led the way to get things moving. Ashley Giles, England’s cricket boss did 26 press-ups, the British Women’s Marathon team, led by the remarkable Jo Pavey, ran a relay of 10 runners doing 2.6 miles and so on. Todays’ LOCKDOWN HEROES are the organisers and ALL the volunteers, undertaking the challenge – I bet they will exceed the £60m shortful.
